Planning news update: Township of Scugog council highlights published October 2, 2026; reviewed by DurhamPlanning.com on October 2, 2026.
Two zoning by-law amendment matters appeared in Scugog’s summary of its September 14 council meeting. SmartCentres and MHBC Planning presented about 1535 Highway 7A, while Manorville Homes presented about 15682 Simcoe Street North. The official meeting record identifies the latter as application Z/04/2026 and lists the staff files as DEV-2026-025 and DEV-2026-026.
What council did
The Township says council received both presentations for information. That wording matters: it records that council heard the material, but it does not establish that either zoning amendment was approved. A zoning amendment request is a proposal to change the rules that apply to a property. The final outcome depends on the municipal process, the application record and any later decision.
Residents following either address should use the official meeting agenda and Township application channels to confirm the requested uses, site standards, supporting studies, later reports and appeal information. The October 2 highlights summarize the meeting; they are not a substitute for the application documents or a future decision notice.
A new mapping tool is also taking shape
The same council update says Scugog has launched a beta GeoHub with public map viewers for wards, parks, trails, cemeteries and heritage buildings. The Township says future functions are expected to include a development-application tracker and views of ongoing capital projects. Because those additions are described as future functions, visitors should not assume the beta portal is already a complete application inventory.
What this means for visitors
If a property, business or route may be affected, track the address and file number rather than relying on a project name alone. Check whether the record is at the application, public-meeting, staff-recommendation or decision stage before drawing conclusions about permitted development.
